FIRE IN THE CANYON!

CARBON CANYON – A brush fire that started near Carbon Canyon Road has
grown to roughly 10 acres as firefighters continue to fight the flames
from the air, officials said. One witness reported seeing a plume of smoke rising near the road,
then slowly start making its way up the hill toward the ridge.
Several agencies have been called to fight the fire, and firefighters
are using two helicopters to make water drops. A third helicopter has
been requested."It's moving very slowly," said Kevin Kelly, operations chief of the Brea Fire Department.
The fire was reported at about 10:30 a.m. one mile east of Carbon
Canyon Regional Park along Carbon Canyon Road. Officials said it was
burning in an area with light brush and there was little wind to help
the flames travel.
The Orange County Fire Authority, Fullerton Fire Department and the
Chino Valley Independent Fire District have also been called to assist,
Kelly said.
Two helicopters with the OCFA have been making water drops on the
fire, and fire officials are also flying in a hand crew to help fight
the fire from the ground, said Capt. Greg McKeown of the OCFA.
No homes or structures are currently threatened, officials said.
